19th Annual Utah Puppetry Festival
The Puppetry Arts Guild of Utah and the SCERA Center for the Arts are pleased to present the 19th Annual Utah Puppetry Festival on Saturday, April 10th, 2010.
This year’s festival will feature:
A FREE Puppetry Exhibit
All Day
Free
Come explore the world of puppets and puppet art with custom made puppets and marrionettes of all kinds created by local Utah puppet artists.
Puppetry Workshops
9 am – 3:30 pm
$15 Pre-registration, $20 At the door (covers all classes)
There will be numerous puppetry workshops taught by experienced local puppeteers, puppet builders and artists. Learn basic puppet performance techniques, puppet crafts, puppet building, and more. (Select classes may also require an additional materials fee for take-home projects.)
There are classes for adults and kids including:
- Wannabe Puppets
- Talking Tube Puppets
- Ventriloquism
- How to use Neoprene
- Pop-Up Puppets
- Introduction to Wide Mouth Hand Puppet Performance
- Rod Foam Puppets
- How to Build a Ventriloquist Dummy
- Developing Voices for a Puppet Character
This year we are also offering teacher re-licensure points.

The Great Puppet Follies – Puppet Variety Show
4 pm – 5:30 pm
$5 Adult, $3 Child (age 3-11)
Whether you attend the workshops or not, bring your family and friends to our puppet performance extravaganza. Featuring this year’s special guest, “The String Man” Freddy Spencer, as well as the hilarious ventriloquist Kerry Summers, Maxed Out Puppetry, and other Puppeteers from the state of Utah, The Great Puppet Follies will be a puppet variety show you won’t want to miss!
Our Headliner, Freddie Spencer, has been a professional puppeteer and creator of puppets for more than 50 years. He worked for Sid and Marty Kroft on the television shows H.R. Puff N’ Stuff, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and Land of the Lost. In addition, Freddie opened his own live action special effects company, Image Creators, and worked on such films as Beetlejuice, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Team America, World Police.
