WHEN: Saturday September 28, 2013 – Puppetry Workshop co-sponsored by the Puppetry Arts Guild of Utah and The Fine Arts Center’s World of Puppetry Museum
WHERE: The Fine Arts Center, 58 South 100 West in Brigham City
WHAT to EXPECT: Lots and Lots of PUPPET fun
8:30 am Doors Open. Register and order lunch. Bagels and juice will be available to fuel the morning
9:00 am: Neoprene Molding Demonstration by Carla Schulz
Go from idea to light weight shell of hardened neoprene material. This involves making a clay figure, casting that in a 1-3 piece mold of plaster and then pouring in neoprene to get the final results. The demo includes pointers, ideas, and resources. Great media for unique puppet heads, feet and hands.
10:30 am: Make-n-Take Paper Plate and Foam Talking Puppet. Go from start to finish in 1 and ½ hours. See attached pictures. Please call ahead to order a basic puppet making kit ($5).
• (OR bring ½ inch thick foam for one 8 inch circle and a second half of an 8” circle and fabric for a body and arms-one body piece 15 by 13 inches and one piece for arms 18 ½ by 4 ½ to 5 inches wide.)
• We will have odds and ends for eyes, hair, and trim, etc.
12 Noon: Show and Tell & Lunch Break. Meet Puppetry Arts Guild of Utah members and see what they are doing. Bring pictures or your favorite or newest puppet for show and tell. Puppet swap items will be set out to sell, and there will be Demo puppet stages on exhibit. Bring a sack lunch or we will take early morning orders for a sandwich lunch ($4-$5)
12:30 pm to 1:30 pm: Puppet Swap –bring your odds and ends and extra puppets to sell or swap. Also we’re excited to have Puppet Partners (Carolyn Frank) here with items & stages to sell
1:30 to 3:00 pm Puppet critique and puppet improv
We are inviting a few 5 minute shows for critique. These would be vignettes, or snippets clips from local shows. Learn a fun and effective critiquing method.
Time permitting; we will also try our hand at puppet improv.
3:00 pm: Punch and Judy show and World of Puppet Museum open.
COST: Free for PAGU members (puppet make-n-take kit $5 or bring your own supplies—must register ahead to get a kit)
Non members: All day pass including the Demo and the Make and Take project and Critique shows $10 for individuals or $20 for a family (plus kit charge or bring your own supplies).
