The Puppetry Arts Guild of Utah offered its 2012 Annual Puppet Fest on Saturday April 21st!
This day long activity is a community service by the guild and included hands on workshops for all levels of interest and ability. This included kids make-and-take projects and puppet shows available throughout the day. It was a chance to meet Puppetry Arts Guild of Utah members from all over the state, get inspired and learn more about this fun and wonderful multidisciplinary art form. A guild follies performance was followed later that day by SCERA’S own premier of “Pinocchio”.

Annual one day festivals have been a big part of our service to the Utah community. The past three years we have held this festival in April at the SCERA in Orem. A very special thanks to the SCERA Center for the Arts for hosting the festival. As a state wide organization our ties to members in Southern Utah have also made it possible to offer Fall workshops in the St. George area. Guild members and friends have volunteered workshops on all kinds of puppetry activities from puppet history, puppet making to performing tips. We are grateful to all the teachers for their preparation and for sharing their knowledge and expertise.
Below area few pictures from one of our festivals!
The Bunraku Bay Puppet Troupe, based at the University of Missouri, will be performing at the Pardoe Theatre at Brigham Young University in Provo, on January 16th and 17th.
Bunraku is an amazing form of traditional Japanese Puppetry, more properly called ningyō jōruri.
Martin Holman, is the coordinator of the Japanese studies program at University of Missouri and the director of the troupe. He studied Japanese at BYU, and is the first non-Japanese to ever be trained in and perform ningyō jōruri in Japan.
We will be holding the 17th Annual Puppetry Workshops all day on April 26th. Also don’t miss the Puppet Variety Show later that afternoon. Details, Maps, and Registration forms are available at:
The workshops in past years have been a blast. Watch for pictures and video from the event here on the Utah Puppetry blog after the 26th. Hope to see you there!
